Creative Learning

Third Angel's artistic work is supported and invigorated by an active Creative Learning programme for students, other artists and audience members. The company has a wealth of educational experience, including lecturing, teaching, mentoring, and as artists in residence, facilitators and workshop leaders, with participants ranging from 5 - 65 years old.

We aim to work with partners to create a bespoke package for them. We like to adapt our methodologies to suit different learning styles and systems and to explore a range of themes and forms, not just theatre. We prefer an extended period of time to work with students to build up trust and allow them to reach their full potential. We aim to create an environment that encourages exploration, allows for 'failure', and provides time to learn from that failure if it happens.

We also provide one-off workshops, after show discussions, video screenings and lectures about our range of work and methods.

Bespoke projects to date include:

Curso De Encenacao De Teatro (2004 & 2007)
A 9 and 6 week teaching residency in Devising and Directing for theatre makers and other artists, commissioned by Fundacao Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisboa and designed and delivered by Third Angel. Both projects included solo and group projects and public showings of work produced on the course.

Listen Up! (2007)
A 6 month residency at Totley Primary School, Sheffield, devising and creating a fantastical audio tour of the local area with the pupils and featuring their stories.

Devising Masterclass (2002)
A week-long devising masterclass for professional artists and recent graduates. The exercises making up the course produced several small performance projects. Commissioned by Cuarta Pared, Madrid.

(2002 & 2003)
Two residencies at RSAMD, Glasgow, making theatre pieces with BA (Hons) students for public performance.

An Artist in Residence project in collaboration with the BBC, in the Harehills and Burmantofts areas of Leeds.
